Anyone out there have experience with video game systems? We currently have the out-of-date Ninetendo 64 system, and my kids complain all the time about it......after a long discussion, we decided to get them a new system for christmas, but which one is better? Does xbox and playstation both play cd's and dvd's? I'm shopping for one tomorrow!

Go with the playstation. I also have had to buy one this christmas for my boys. There are more games, and in my opinion better games, for playstation. And it plays CDs.

we got PS2 last year for Christmas. my son has been very happy with it. the graphics are the same on both systems; i think PS2 is DVD ready when you buy it. X-Box may need a remote.
of course, they make games for XBox that are not for PS2 and vice versa. making kids (like mine) want two systems. 
XBox just had a great promotion though - system, two games, a steering wheel all for under $200.

Saw that....thought it was a good deal...just don't want to get something that will be out of date in a year....I'm leaning towards PS2, but I am sure PS3 will come out after I buy this...and our bottomless wallet will just have to keep digging out more money!

It will be a never ending problem. Go ahead and wait for ps3 and then ps4 will be coming out. There's nothing yo ucan do about that. I say go with PS2 - XBox is so Generation X.

We bought PS2 for our kids this year. Many of the stores have promotions right now where you can get a package deal on the PS2 with
a game and accessories included, make sure you shop around to get the best deal, unfortunately we bought it early, before the promos started.

We have one of each and if you go with either of them you will be fine. Sure there will be a bigger, badder, SOB out on the market soon but you can't wait. As soon as you buy any electronic device you are out of date.
