Three times this week, I have passed a cyclist in the dark on my way home from the shop. I feel I should stop and give him the extra flasher on my backpack so he doesn't get creamed.
If he dies, it's my fault.

That it's my fault if the guy dies.

I get the same feeling when I see cyclists doing something that endangers themselves and others. I.e. riding against traffic, no helmet (self only).

I can see the guilt, but shouldn't the load of responsibility and guilt be on the rider who should already have a flasher and other safety gear to he/she can be seen?

Is it your fault? NO. they should be better prepared/educated/aware of the danger themselves.
I'd only give you "contributing factor" status

It would be a nice thing to do but it's not your fault if the guy dies.
(I would probably feel guilty too. Why do women tend to feel more guilt/responsibility for things like this than men?)

Here I was thinking it was a new WWF reality show. (Then again, nothing on WWF is reality...)

No, I'm serious, now. I wonder why this is. What makes women feel more responsible for the safety/needs of others? Is it that mothering instinct? What?

It's not your fault. You should enlighten him though to absolve yourself of the guilt.
