These bridesmaid dress stories got me thinking about the worst one I ever wore, and the wedding that required it. It was a coyote-ugly blue dress the color of an Equal packet. Nothing remarkable. The only thing remarkable was that we were able to dye shoes to match. Also the fact that it was a heavy material didn't help since it was 101 degrees that day. It was an altogether charmless wedding in which the groom's stepfather, who was a lawyer and definitely owned a suit, wore a golf shirt and all the food was outside so the potato salad and macaroni salad separated (oil from mayo, not salad from salad). I respected the fact that the bride and groom were paying for it themselves. But they chose a one-man band they had seen at the mall, which was just awful. Also, the reception was in the back yard of the bride's father's house, and her parents opted not to let anyone into the house. See above it was 101 degrees. Also, they had to hurry up and do all the rituals b/c the person who was taking the pictures had to leave early.

I'd like to tell you it all worked out and they lived happily ever after, but alas they divorced a few years later.

Your horrorstory next.

My worst experience was also as a bridesmaid. The wedding was in July and as luck would have it, our typical fine weather was replaced with thunderstorms and incredible humidity. The church was not air conditioned, so the entire wedding party was overheated, sweating, drooping and miserable-looking in every photo. Also, the food at the reception was hors d'ouerves. Right when the food was served, the photographer wanted to take more photos in the air conditioned hotel, so when we returned, all the food was gone. Not even the bride and groom got to eat at their own reception. Shocked

Otherwise, it was good and the marriage is still intact.

My horror story was also as a bridesmaid, maid of honor in fact. Really, the wedding was gorgeous and I love the couple, my life long best friend and her husband, so far they've made it and I have faith they will continue. However, the horror comes in with the arrangement of the bridal party. Long story short, the only two single people in the bridal party are myself and wouldn't you know, the groom's life long best friend who was the best man. The entire time my best friend dated her now husband they were SURE Bob* would be perfect for me. Dozens of times we were supposed to meet but since neither he nor I lived in the same city much less the same city as the couple it didn't workout and the first time we met was the wedding weekend. I guess Bob bought into all the 'meant for eachother' crap over the years, certainly our parents did (In attendance at the wedding are obviously the parents of the bride and groom, my parents (practically serogate parents to the bride) and the best man's parents) as they were all giddy about the big setup, chats about where 'inlaws' lived, wouldn't the kids be cute. ALl talking about BOB and I, not the bride and groom.... It got to the point that our potential relationship was as big a story as the wedding. It was way out of hand. Worse was the fact that there was NO chemistry, and that Bob, out of nerves or something was jittery and awkward then got completely wasted and stupid. I, never a fan of setups and especially those forced in front of wedding guests, was in HELL. Not only in a tight tight tight bridesmaids dress, give some toast in front of 500 guests but then was having my own 'first dance' arranged by the groom himself IN THE RECEPTION after the bride and groom's photo sessions, awkward moments....he didn't get a clue and it was bad. Very bad. Needless to say we didn't see each other after the wedding. The good news is, Bob is now happily married. And I've since forgiven my best friend and her husband.

*Name changed to protect the awkward and completely incompatible

My own reception. The x's ex-stepmother, whom nobody could stand anyways, got hammered and got up on the stage. She then proceeded to sing Harper Valley PTA and dedicated it to her sleazebag daughter. The x was completely appalled, I missed it as I was outside drunk on my butt trying to break up a fight. I don't even remember who was fighting....

At one of the x's friends weddings some old dude had a heart attack at the reception - we found out he died later that day.

We had an EMS call at our firehouse, where the father of the bride had a massive heart attack during the reception. We worked our tails off on him, but it was to no avail.

I think the mere fact that I agreed to both of them makes them disasters, in my book.

Any wedding where the couple gets so obsessed it's their main focus, all they can talk about, all they work on, is a horror in my book. It's one day people - keep it in perspective. I know it's exciting for you, but really, it's nauseating to keep hearing about it. You must have other things going on in your life.

My worst experience was my older brother's wedding. Black velvet/white satin mermaid dress. In March. Winter velvet. I also wasn't speaking to him at the time, and didn't boycott the wedding solely for my mother's sake. They had over 25 people in their wedding party, and over 350 at the reception. The only reason I knew certain people were at that circus was because of the pictures.

I think I would've enjoyed robp's reception very much. Though I would have most likely been in a fight myself.

The one I am allowed to mention (if I expect to come home to a door with unchanged locks) was one mentioned a little while ago. The groom was totally obliterated at the party the night before, but tastefully saved losing his lunch until he was at the altar.

We got a buddy of mine completely obliterated the night before his wedding. He lost lunch about midnight and was still hammered the next morning. He didn't get sick during the wedding but his face was a lovely shade of white and gray in all his wedding photos Mr. Green His wife wouldn't speak to either me or the best man at the wedding....
