I work at a college. The budget is flat, which means no raises next year. This is happening all over, and I feel lucky to have a job. I think that HR departments need to work a little harder, though, to make people feel valued in other ways. I hear a lot of talk about it (not just here) but I see very little of that being translated into action. That lack of action is, in my mind, what contributes to poor morale. People have to feel valued, as Genie so clearly points out, or what else is it for?

Yah, you know, I think you really underestimate good ol' Bob Dinkins. I think he really likes you. Didn't he make sure you had plenty of paper clips just last week? Mr. Green
