Posted: 03/24/04 - 20:21 Post subject: Woohoo! got the job!
I was just notified by email that I successfully obtained for sure a research assistantship award for this summer (from May to August). This means I will be working full time in my supervisor's lab on a research project (though I have to prepare and write up a thesis during the fall).
As far as the nature of research goes (for all the science geeks out there who want to know more), I will be working in a genomics lab (doing microarray analysis, PCR, etc) in the forestry department (though my supervisor's in botany- he has 2 labs) particularly on upregulation/downregulation of genes expressing enzymes that help synthesize defense compounds in response to insect attack. Here's my supervisor's webpage if you are interested in knowing more: http://www.botany.ubc.ca/bohlmann.html

i love upregulation of genes, especially the ones that express those synthesizing enzymes.
why do i think "curing a disease" is most likely on your to do list?
Congratulations Tim - go guy go!!!!

It's been awhile since I had a genetics class. | All I know is I saw the word 'analysis'. And remember, the first half of analysis is... Oh, congratulations, Tim!
