Some time ago, there was a discussion about women winning coed races. Some people found it hard to believe that it actually happened. Here is recent evidence from the 2004 Race for the Cure in Denver.

Not quite. People found it hard to believe that it happened OFTEN. It does happen, it's just not the norm.

Of course it's possible, but in any competitive race I am still yet to see it. And no, I wouldn't consider that race competitive, with a 17 min time winning it. Just last week there were some 5ks in the area. One was won by a guy with a 21:XX. And obviously a lot of women can run faster than that. So there's another case where a woman could have easily won.

You can't assess the competetive nature of a race in Colorado based on the times. Weather and geography play a big part in determining how fast people can run. Race courses are often hilly and challenging. And they are all run over a mile above sea level.
Having said that, I don't know where they ran. But times alone don't tell the full story of a race in Colorado. ( I think the same can be said for some of the PA races I've seen pics of in Training Tales and Race Reflections. )

And they sure know how to use it
They don't abuse it
Never gonna loose it
I can't refuse it

Well aware, and I was anticipating this response. I still don't consider it competitive though. Show me any elite or semi-elite race result where a female wins.

That's true. I won't argue that. Paul Tergat isn't threatened by Paula Radcliffe at this point. That isn't what I meant.
My point was that women win coed races. Period.
Some people said they had never seen it, so I provided some proof.
And since when is having 6 runners in the 17's not competetive?

Regionalization plays a huge factor. I race predominantly in Philly and NYC, and usually in large races. There are people who run sub 35 10Ks who don't even come in the top 10%, so fast is this crew. I know people that never win anything who, if they went somewhere less competitively stacked, would clean sweep the trophies and medals.

I'll pit the male 40-44 and 45-49 age groups from n.e. Ohio against the same from just about anywhere and feel pretty confident of coming away with a winning record.

Matter of opinion only, but if I win a typical 5k with a 17:10, I'll know I won because the better runners didn't show up. Now if you're running up the side of a mountain, a 17:10 is great. But I doubt that a Race for the Cure course is anything extreme.

Just the fact that people finished in a race series notoriously known for its lack of organization is impressive.
