Probably some largish city on the middle of the East Coast... Baltimore maybe? Richmond? Don't know much about those places though.

No. We went through Raton on the way to Fort Union (?) Historical Site. This was near a spot on the Santa Fe Trail where some of LC's ancestors traveled (and an infant in the family died, if I'm remembering this right).
Northern NM/southern CO would be our second choice of a place to retire to.
