I was pleasantly surprised to be reading my Muscle and Fitness Hers Magazine August 2004 issue when I saw Deena Kastor selecting a bottle of wine to drink from her wine cellar! It gave me great hope to be able to keep having a glass of wine and running!
Seriously, this past issue of Muscle and Fitness Hers has focused on Olympians, training, and nutrition. While I feel this magazine has gone "light" in recent issues, this has been an excellent one on focusing on various athletes in their daily routines. (Deena does ice baths....I do ice baths! Deena drinks wine....I drink wine!!! Deena runs way fast!....I have some work to do on that....!)

I knew I was stalking her for good reason. Mr. Green

I've tried the glass of wine with running. But I keep spilling so much of it. Razz

Lance and I have a lot in common too.

He's 33, I'm 34.
He's 5'-11", I'm 5'-11.5".
He rides a Trek and wears a Giro helmet. I rode a Trek and wore a Gire helmet.
He's dating Sheryl Crowe, I've had dreams about Sheryl Crowe.
He made more than 20 million dollars last year. I can spell twenty million.

It doesn't taste as wonderful when it's warm... Maybe I should stop leaving the bottle along the road next to my water stops? Mr. Green

Which is why an IV (here, standing for intra vino) bag is such a good idea. But then, you have to drag that darn cart along with you.

Oh, REAL-ly now, Lovie -- the trick is to let the sherpa or porter carry the wine. It's the ONLY way to race.

I gotta think this is the biggest piece of the pie. If for arguments sake, we say a half-dozen miles of her week are sub-par because of the effects of alcohol, that would be less than 5%. But for a lower mileage runner, those half-dozen miles are going to be a whole lot more, say 20% or 30%. When that much of your mileage is affected by your body processing alcohol, thus bringing down the "maximum" benefit of your training, it's going to have a substantial impact on how well you run.
<-- extra cents because I'll likely be flamed on this
