So, my laptop here at the office won't boot correctly. Windows XP Professional and all the IT guys are MIA. I'm at a jobsite trailer anyway.
I've booted into safe mode with networking and restored to a previously good safe check by windows. I have properly shut down and tried to reboot again into normal mode twice with no luck.
Suggestions?
I get the blue screen of death like it wants to boot XP and give me a logon, but changes it's mind and goes to sleep. I've let it think for 15 minutes each time before trying again.

From the run prompt, run CMD to get a DOS prompt
Type the following:
C:
chkdsk /f
This will change your active directory to the C Drive and run Check Disk with the fix parameter. Windows usually does this when coming up in safe mode but you can force it.

As of 4:00p, a second chkdsk was still running. We'll see what happened overnight.
