Posted: 10/24/02 - 20:56 Post subject: Will I Make It Through Fat Season (ranting)
Today my daughter's dance class had a halloween party.
Next week her daycare has a party plus it will be halloween.
Between now and Thanksgiving there will be 4 family birthday
parties all with cake and ice cream. Not to mention Thanksgiving
and Christmas and all the food at work and all the food at
families and neighborhood get togethers.
I have lost 20lbs since I started running and would like to lose
twenty more. I just hope I have the will power to make it through
fat season.
Also there will be extra of this going on
Thank you for letting me vent.

Poky,
Maybe you could encourage the family and friends to bring healthy stuff to the get-togethers?
Or you could just bring your own healthy stuff (make low-fat cookies, etc) and only eat what you bring.
Also, eat before you go somewhere - you are less likely to eat 1000 cookies if you are already full.
And also - good job on your weight loss so far! You are doing great!

I find this one works the best. Fill up on your food before you go, and then maybe have some small treat at the party. One thing I've found that doesn't work for me is to decide I'm not having any treats. That just makes me want them more.
Good luck and keep running. And congratulations on your svelter self!

I agree with the 'eat before you go' policy. That's what works well for me. Try sticking with the healthier stuff at Christmas and Thanksgiving too.

I am in the same boat, Between Nov 24 and Dec 2 (8 days) we have 3 birthdays and Thanksgiving. Then another month of the holiday season.
I am going to have to do 2-a-days just to stay even.

I try to remember that it's going to taste the same whether you eat 1 or 20, so I just have a little of everything. Telling yourself you "can't" have something only makes the mind rebel! Just go easy... it's okay to indulge, as long as you don't overdo it.

Most people eat even when they aren't hungry. I have to disagree with the eat before you go thing. I always ate socially at parties whether I ate at home or not. Now I just have one or two at the party but make them last a long time. People don't like it when others can control themselves, makes them feel guilty. You'll get the pressure anyway- just be strong!

Thank you everybody for all your suggestions. I'm hoping
to maintain throughout the season and then go back to weight
loss mode at the first of the year.

OK, I'll weigh in with a response. I kill me
1. Don't eat before you go to a party, drink before you go. Water that is. Gives you a filled up feeling without any calories. And besides, drinking water is good for you!
2. Make up some kind of schedule of things you can do during the holiday months that will help you from gaining weight. At the fitness center we do a program called "Maintain Campaign". Hmmm...maybe we could do some kind a virtual campaign here.
3. Share your maintain goals with the family and friends before (and during) the season. "No, Mom, I LOVE your dessert, but I'm trying to cut back on fattening foods because..." Who knows, maybe they'll support you in your quest.
4. Way to rock on the 20 lbs!
