Why not just wear something close cut? Is there a big advantage with tights?

YES

The advantage is that the tights move with your body so there isn't any friction between your skin and the clothes.

For display purposes only Wink

Really though, like kcr says, tights give the feeling of bare legs and there isn't the chaffing possiblity or what I find aggrivating, the noisey rustling of running pants. Also the good tights with "moisture management" wick away and evaporate sweat really well. Another thing is some "compression" articles you might come across. Whether there's credence to it, I can't say, but for me, I think it helps.

I hate to say it, but I like running in them too. They are great when it is colder out. They make a great first layer when it is super cold and a great only layer in the late fall/early spring.
