Rioting and burning are going on in 300 towns in France. And some of us are worried about "respect and understanding"? What is wrong with this picture?

Kristin, with all due respect - I suggest you stay out of this forum if you can't handle the truth and debate topics in respectful manner. I've never once made this personal with you, yet you have bashed me on multiple occasions for my posts. Memo to you - Debate the topics, not the poster.

The rioting is because two teenagers were electrocuted.

Sure it is. And the bomb-making factory in Paris is just for show.

Why do you believe there is a bomb factory? Just because they can or for another underlying reason? If so, what is that?

I can handle the truth just fine, thank you. I can't handle bigots.

Memo to you: get your head out of the 1950's south.

I do not have the power, nor the desire, to ban anyone. As moderator, my one and only job is to enforce our agreed upon rules.

One of those rules is to be civil to one another. In my mind, attacking the arguement or opinion is fair game. Attacking each other for holding an opinion or making an aruguement is not.

I can't make anyone adhere to the rules, nor do I want to. I really , really try to play with a very loose hand regarding locking or deleting threads. I don't mind if our conversations meander off topic, as most of my real life conversations tend to never be soley focused on one topic or issue. I think a wide ranging conversation is a good thing, as long as it sort of stays within the realm of the original topic. I could spend my days warning everyone to "stay on the topic or start a new thread." To me, that is driving a converatrion or discussion, not moderating.

But once we start down the slope of allowing invididual criticisim, I think this forum is doomed. Remember, our sole purpose for being at OT is to keep these discussions out of RR. This isn't the "left wing" runningforums site, or the "right wing" runningforums site.

I enjoy spirited debate and exchange of opinions as much as anyone. But as moderator I won't tolerate anyone being singled out. I will lock the thread, or delete IF I think no further good can come of it. Call it censorship, but I cannot tell you how much I agonize over making sure my own opinions or beliefs do not color my job as moderator.

If y'all want a new moderator it will not hurt my feelings. Not at all. I won't go away mad, or pout and sulk. If enough people contact PH and wish a change in what passes for leadership at OT, then the baton will be passed.

But until then, I am just trying to be even handed, fair and as hands off as I know how to be. And strive to keep this forum alive and civil.
