Why don't states raise the fee up to $500 to cover the cost of the additional testing and go from there? Why don't you lose your license after 3 or 4 points instead of 12 (I think that's what it is in GA)?
If traffic is such a problem in large cities, why doesn't the government do something about all the marginal drivers? While they're at it, why not raise the driving age too, maybe 18 or 20?

It gives us an earlier opportunity to get fat, lazy and out of shape, i mean we might have to <gasp> walk down the block to get the icecream and Ding Dongs.

If they got rid of all the marginal drivers the roads around here would be nearly empty. Last time I renewed my license they were testing some old dude to renew his. He had to pass an eye test. He continually missed, they continually gave him another chance till he finally guessed his way to his renewal. I made sure I wasn't anywhere near him when I left the place. I know it's very tough to not have a license but that dude was definitely unsafe.

Damn you to the deepest depths of Hell. I barely managed to pass on the Ding Dongs while standing in line at Zellers this morning. Now I may have to stop at the gas station on the way to pick up the kids.

For $500 a pop, why don't they just get us all bikes?

Because many Americanskis consider it their constitutional right to drive.

The increased cost is to cover the much more difficult testing.

raise the fee, sure.
lower the number of points before you loose, sure.
raise the driving age? uhuh. there would still be iresponsible, inexperienced drivers on the road, theyd just all be 18...
by the way, i was 18 when i got my license, and ive managed to wreck my car twice and get a ticket. so the age you can finally drive at is irrelevant....
