Posted: 11/29/05 - 08:41 Post subject: Why is carb/protein ratio so good for you?
Okay, we've all heard the CORRECT ratio of carbs to protein is 3 or 4 to 1.
Does anyone know WHY it is better then say 5 or 6 to 1? Or even WHY is it better then 1 to 1?
Anyone have a study or know where I can find it on the www?
thanks (inquiring minds want to know)
Kel

It comes down to faster hydration and glycogen sparing in muscle. Go to the National Library of Medicine and search PubMed for the author John L Ivy, try keywords like "recovery" "nutrition" "carbohydrate" and "protein". Read the thread on this issue here, too.

The ultra pros at Hammer nutrition recommend soy protein while training and whey protein for recovery. Even then they recommend a 16:1 ratio because they claim that more than that and ammonia will be a problem.
