This may sound like a weird question, but why does it seem like some of my runs are so much better than others, yet my pace will be almost the same?

This is something I have noticed a few times and today when I logged my run I noticed it as dramatically as ever.

I went out for my run tonight and felt great. Good rhythm, stride was comfortable, seemed to just flow, comparing that to my run yesterday that felt about as coordinated as falling out of a tree, and I found that I was actually 5 seconds a mile quicker over a similar distance yesterday.

It just doesn't seem logical to me that I could go faster when I am struggling than when I am doing things right.

@NJSPEEDER - Having finished my first marathon last year, I understand why you would be wondering what's up with the different feelings with different runs. My training was up and down, up and down!

Basically, a lot of it has to do with your mind and body fatigue. The days you feel great are the days when you're body has rested or is recovered and your mind is feeling good about your run. Of course, when you're body is fatigued so is your mind and that's probably where the "bad run" creeps in.

As you train more, your feelings should become more consistent as your body adapts.

Which marathon are you going to run?
