Seems to me that the easy way to eliminate a bunch of the bad drivers would be to have tougher enforcement of traffic laws. I think in GA, you can get 12 points before they suspend your license. Why not make it more like 4?
I work with a lady that got caught for going >25MPH over the speed limit and all she got was a ticket. I think she should have lost her license like her son (18 y.o.) did a few days earlier when he got caught for the same thing.
And with that many fewer cars on the road, wouldn't there be less traffic?

Why the discrepancy in punishments?

double standard.
can't suspend everyone's liscense and with 4 pts that's what would start happening -- believe me -- we had enough trouble getting the drunk's license suspended after he rammed us.. they were all worried about how he'd get to work and what if he loses his job and is this gonna make him drink more, ruin his life, blah blah blah..... they said it would have a negative economical impact cuz he's gonna go on welfare now.....
actually they made us feel guilty for wanting to suspend it. he got 6 months suspension but sheeeeeeeeeeeeeesh, what a friggin' battle. that's PA though.

We have the same tough driving laws for teens but not adults. My kid found out the hard way - 60 day suspension for 88 mph in a 55 zone. It could've been 90 days but the judge was nice to him. I told him he deserved it for being an assclown and he didn't disagree. He just had to see how fast that damn Camaro would go....

Yeah the 18 wheeler who ran over 9 cars, 6 totaled, 3 medivaced pleaded guilty to 24 of 26 charges and walked away with a ticket. A bunch of us were still in PT during the trial. The trooper said he has to kill someone before they take his license away. I gues close only counts in horseshoes and handgranades.

I think the easiest way is through everyone's wallet. If your insurance company could refuse to pay for accidents if it was proven that you were driving recklessly or disobeyed traffic laws, people would be more likely to drive safely. Can you imagine how safely you'd drive if you KNEW that if you caused an accident it could cost you thousands of dollars? Tens of thousands?
I think there are two major reasons people don't drive safely; one, the odds of getting caught are too low and two, other than a measly traffic fine, there is no financial burden to the driver.
No-fault insurance is a bane to society.

Just be glad he wasn't driving a DeLorean with a flux capacitor.

I think speed shouldn't be enforced nearly as much as other offenses... such as running red lights? I don't see how going 90 on a lonely stretch of highway is dangerous. Running a red light at a busy intersection... that's just stupid. We should have cops at intersections instead of highway stretches. But that's just me... and I like to drive fast.

What they need to do is take people's car's away. Suspending licenses is a mook point. Most of the time the people still drive anyway, and if they do get caught they just keep suspending it.

We had a guy here locally, who was recently arrested for his 10th DUI. He keeps driving, friends cars.
There really is no way to keep bad driver off the road, they will find a way to drive. The only sure way is to lock their asses up for a long time.
