I'd much rather ride my bike on a highway than in town.

Can't ride on the interstates here. The the longest stretch of the most direct route from my old house to work was also closed to bicycles.

That sounds nice but is it feasible? Didn't you have a longer commute and now its shorter? Did you move or change jobs? Moving the job is often easier (or not even a choice with layoffs) than moving the residence, particularly when there are kids involved.

for the record, I live in a bikeable commute with no highways, I'm just scared

I changed jobs and then changed residences... closer job, then ideal location/commute.

Bike are not allowed on highways here...not that it stops people from biking on them though. For me, it would be more lack of trust for the drivers of the cars going 120 km/h...

I wouldn't bike on a highway with speed limit 65mph or above unless it had ample shoulder room. But if it does, and it is legal, why not?

Interstates... no way.
