Posted: 07/01/04 - 08:06 Post subject: Why I can't watch the Sox anymore
The Red Sox are so embarrassingly bad that I can no longer tolerate to watch them. Terry Francona is so amazingly idiotic that at 24 years old my stupid ass could outmanage him seven days a week and twice on Sundays.
Consider:- No one out, bases loaded, poor hitter at the plate. We are not sacrifice flying in a third run WHY?
- David Ortiz strikes out to end the top of the seventh. He will not likely see the plate again. Why does he go back to the field when McCarty (one of the best fielders in the league) sits on the bench? WHY? WHY?
- After leaving McCarty on the bench, we PINCH-HIT him? ARE YOU F*CKING SERIOUS!? He can FIELD great, but he can't hit!!!
- Jason Varitek has left about 475 people on base this year and is batting approximately .063. Doug Mirabelli already has two hits in the game. Why does V-Tek pinch hit for Mirabelli?
- Why are we taking strikes with Mariano Rivera? Increase the pitch count?
I refuse to watch any more games until something changes. - Francona needs to go, for failures similar to those listed above.
- Nomar is playing horrible, horrible baseball. He is still the first-pitch-swinging pop up machine. He is terrible in the field right now, and folds like a beach chair under pressure. His resentment is glaring and is bringing the team down. Bench him or trade him.
- Give Mirabelli a few more starts. He can throw out runners and hit. Varitek can do neither of these things.
- Can ANYONE explain why Millar is still playing professional baseball? Anyone? Hello?

Francona is notorious for over managing. I am so glad he is gone from here.
Being in Boston last weekend, I can truly understand the frustration those fans have. Bosox fans are among the most loyal in baseball. They deserve better than Franconia

Bob:
I've rooted for the Yankess since Yogi was the starting catcher. However, I can see your and the other Red Sox fans' frustrations in coming so close and losing it. The game last night must have been a horror for you - losing a 2 run lead on bonehead plays and decisions.
I would just like to add a commentary: From about 1963 to 1980's the Yankees were simply awful. One year the ONLY Yankee selected for the All Star Game was Thurmon Munson. The Yankee's resurgence started slowly in 1978 and solidified about 10 years later. I can remember Steinbrenner being vilified every chance any NY sports writer could.
Last year it looked like the Cubs and Red Sox had a very good chance of making it to the Series. I was eternally thankful because at the bottom of the 9th of the 7th game with the game and series even. The asteroid would have hit...

I leave Sunday to go to Rhode Island on vacation for a week. The Rangers are playing the Bo Sox that week and I am thinking about taking my son to a game.
I watched that game last night and it was painful. Just painful. Then, I will root for any team playing the yankees.
Still room on the Ranger bandwagon.

That was a very painful game to watch! I was watching it while running at the gym and had to play my walkman instead of listen to it.
I don't even want to hear about Jason Varitek doing anything bad!
Terrible game...terrible.

I grew up for years on Staten Island as a Mets fan during the 80's and moved to Minnesota in the early 90's. The Yankees were on the awful side then. I was able to love the Yankees (though my heart is with the Mets) perhaps because the team couldn't get the job done and make it to the playoffs. I felt for Mattingly and couldn't wait for the day the Yankees could return to prominence. I figured that if i couldn't have the Mets every year (after 1988, the Mets began a downward slide), maybe the Yankees could start winning.
Growing up there, it is really easy to like the Yankees, but as tired as people are of them now, it was a really great story in 1995 when the Yankees made the playoffs for the first time in a decade and it was the last year Don Mattingly played and the first time he made the playoffs....and the Mariners beat the Yanks in 5 games to get out of the first round.
