I am, again. I found someone who is terrific. I personally think (once you've found the right one, just like any relationship) that therapy should be a staple of adult life.
Rather than the old feeling that only the insane need psychoanalysis, therapy is good for the totally sane, who want to stay that way, right? We all need to talk, and talking out loud makes it seem to make much more sense.
It's important for validation and the whole "better out than in" thing, too, to talk to someone who is neutral about you and your problems. Someone who can help you to come to that objective clarity that they feel about you.
I wish it were affordable and the stigma was gone... so everyone could grab a couch and gab. It sure helps.

I think that there is definitely (and sadly) still a stigma. I have heard of people not getting jobs due to being in therapy. Sad, shocking, but there you have it. (Nothing outright--just whispers here and there)
I for one am tickled you found someone you like and TRUST. Most important.

I know people who it has done wonders for. You are so right about the neutral perspective. From observing my friends' experiences, I have seen that they already have the answers, but just need someone to clarify and direct their thinking!
I'm so happy to hear you've found one you trust and like, LE!

I'm glad you've found someone that you really like. I need to be in therapy but just haven't done it yet. It's covered by insurance for the first 5 visits I think, then just a 20% copay for the next 50 or so visits per year I think, but we're so strapped that I don't know if I can afford even 20%, so I'm worried about even getting started.
anyhoo, good for you!

i used to be. i started seeing a counselor at school about a yr ago to deal with some issues i was having. the first girl i was seeing was great, but she was a PhD student so i only saw her for a month or so. the next lady i saw was good too, but i never really felt like we clicked. i thought that maybe it was me so i kept going to to her and it did help.
i still totally need more work, but i also need a break. the last year has been really rough, trying to deal with all those pent up things, school, work and lack of work, and my bf. plus i got tired of talking about it. so for now, ive stopped going.

Our marriage is fine though, it is for maintenance only.

I'm in! I love my therapist, but I only get to see her one more time because she is moving away. That means starting over with someone else and I'm not looking foward to that.
I agree, the stigma is still there. I was reluctant to seek help because of it. This has certainly changed my perspective on that. Visiting someone who has to listen to you: priceless.
now, as far as how it works. I'm not always thrilled about it. for me, solving my "apparent" problem actually forces me to face the real problems and that isn't easy.
