Who is your running role model? I know that many of us are only recreational runners and amateurs, but we certainly can have idols and people we admire. For example, I’ve always liked the late Florence Griffith Joyner. That woman was magnificent! I remember waiting only to see her run. Do you remember her famous nails? She was really something. I’m so sorry she’s not among us any more.

Yeah! She was great, one of a kind. I don’t remember that there was somebody like her. There were and are runners who run better and faster, but she was a real and true star. I also like Marilyn Otti from Jamaica. She continued her career in her forties and she also didn’t fade away. I can’t say that any of them is my role model, because I can only worship them from the distance because I could never even think of comparing myself to them in any respect. I’m only a mediocre. I’m trying hard but I know that I could never reach anything that is worth mentioning. But these ladies inspire me in another way – their hard work and authentic personalities make me persist in everything I do.
