The inaugural Harpeth Hills Flying Monkey Marathon.

The Harpeth Hills Flying Monkey Marathon is meant to be an antidote. It is a marathon that is about running. Running hard. Running over big and memorable rolling hills and through dense woods. Running with other like minded athletes. The Harpeth Hills Flying Monkey Marathon is about the joy and pain of running a unique, and uniquely challenging--some would say beastly--26.2 mile course in the beautiful and historic Percy Warner Park, nestled among the Middle Tennessee Harpeth Hills."

...26.2 tough and memorable miles, with a total of 2500 feet of elevation gain and loss.

I don't know why, but this is tickling my fancy. Who knows, maybe this year I'll actually step it up and run one.

Race director here-

We appreciate your interest in this marathon and your kind words. We expect this to be a very challenging marathon, nestled entirely within Nashville, TN's beautiful and historic Percy Warner Park. This park is filled with rolling ups and downs as it wraps through the Harpeth Hills. The marathon course will include over 2500 feet of elevation gain and loss.

Here is the elevation profile, to give you an idea:

And here is the website:
http://www.harpethhillsmarathon.com

As of right now, one week into registration, 15% of the slots are taken.

If you want to register, here are the two options-
- Online: http://www.active.com/event_detail.cfm?event_id=1314248
- Download and Mail: http://harpethhillsmarathon.com/docs/registration.pdf

Feel free to holler with any questions. We'd love to see y'all down in Nashville this November!

Hey Trent! Welcome to the forums. Hope you come around more.

Since you're dialed in here, might I ask.. why the 100 runner limit? Marathons string out rather quickly, so even the skinniest of trails can handle a good many runners.
You'll fill that 100 in no time and I'd expect the demand would be several hundred if you'd expand. Any plans on bigger races in future years?

I agree that the limit of 100 is pretty tight. There are two reasons why we chose that number. 1) Because this is the first year of putting on this marathon, we want to make sure that we are not overwhelmed and that the runners have a positive experience. 2) We do not want to overwhelm Percy Warner Park parking and facilities with this event. There are lots of twists and turns, so the volunteer needs will be pretty high to direct the runners. The organization who is helping to organize this marathon has extensive experience putting on runs of all sizes <3000, and they felt that 100 would be a good field for the first go around.

We expect that in future years we will grow the Harpeth Hills Flying Monkey Marathon, but probably never more than 300 or so. We want to keep the small, personal feel.

Thanks for the welcome. I just found y'all. Running forums are a great resource, so it is great to have bumped into this one.
