Posted: 12/11/03 - 21:53 Post subject: Which cellular phone service should I use?
I'm in the market for a new cell phone service. I presently have Sprint and am not happy with their customer service.
Verizon has an offer of two phone lines with 400 shared anytime minutes, unlimited nights & weekends, and a couple other options for $59.95. That sounds reasonable to me. Any comments concerning phone service - negative, positive?
Cingular has a similar plan although their phone selection is not quite as good.

For 59.95 with Cingular, I get one phone/750 anytime minutes nationwide which covers 95% of metro areas across the country) plus 5000 night and weekend minutes. Minutes rollover if I don't use them, plus I get free long distance. Your deal seems a litle puny compared with mine.

I love ATT, and have only had one issue with them in 5 years, and they fixed it quickly. I briefly went to Cingular when they gave our district a huge discount, and they messed up my bill every solitary month we had them. I paid to end my contract and returned to ATT.

I use Verizon, and I am very happy with there service. It has worked everywhere I have been. My wife and I have the share plane, its $59.95 for both of our phones, we get 3100 off peak and 400 peak minutes to share.

I really need two phones with two lines that can share the minutes, which is what the Verizon plan offers me. The cingular does also but at a slightly higher price, although they would give me 500 anytime minutes instead of 400. The most number of minutes I have ever used in a month after 3 years of cell phone service with Sprint is 30 minutes. So 400 minutes are ample.
I'm going to have to check out AT&T also, simply because I was happy with them when I had my first cell phone a few years ago.

I use nextel, primarily because hubby got a 2-way nextel radio through his hotel. I get a tiny discount (3%, better than none) since they hold a huge contract with the hotel & I'm a spouse. Nextel has shared minutes but I'm not sure how they compare with others.
For me, the radio feature is most important since hubby and I can contact each other so easily, and they rolled out the nationwide thing, so now I can radio him when I'm on the road (did that this summer when I got to IN, we live in NC). I'm also probably going to get a radio only (if I can) for Libby when she is a bit older, probably high school, and hopefully I will be able to do it for the boys too.

When you decide on a plan, let me know. I'm in the market for a two phones-plan too.

I've got the $39.99 version with the 500 anytime minutes. The rest is the same. I love Cingular's service. For me, they have been the best by far.

I think one of the best things going now, is the ability to keep your cell phone number. I just upgraded my phone a week ago, and was able to keep the same number. I know its no available everywhere, but its a great idea.

At&T coverage doesn't exist on Lavista Road. Or in my driveway in Stone Mountain. Every third call I made going through Tucker got dropped.
I'm using Verizon now and haven't found an area without coverage. I'm also on the split time plan with my wife. It's worked well so far.

Thats what I have, with 4000 night and weekend minutes. They also have an option where you can start your night and weekend minutes at 7pm. I've been with them (or the company they absorbed) for 3 1/2 years and have been really happy.

I have Cingular from when they were locally Comcast Metrophone. My phone is from 1996, is way heavy because the battery is huge, and I only use it for emergencies; that's all I need. It can't even take incoming phonecalls because it lacks the capability to stay on continuously. $5 a month, 32 cents a minute. My bill's like $7 every month. The Paramedic, who lives on his teeny tiny top of the line Nextel, pays $65 for unlimited everything. I have grown to really loathe the deetly deet of the Direct Connect. Both phones are declared on our taxes so we get it all back.
