Posted: 11/21/05 - 10:09 Post subject: Where's my daughter?
I get awaken out of a deep sleep having the weirdest dream by my husband who is frantically saying 'Jennifer, where is our daughter? She's not in her bed and I can't find her in the house"
I run to her room to be sure he's not hallucinating, and sure enough, she's not in her bed. I start screaming her name, thinking maybe she sleepwalked to another part of the house or she's just hiding from us in the middle of the night or maybe she was in the bathroom or something. No sign.
1. The alarm is still set. How'd she get out? How'd anyone else get in?
2. The windows are still locked.
3. I start looking on the top bunk and moving stuff around and I realize, her babies aren't on any part of the bed. Neither are "her" blankies.
It dawns on me and I calmly step off the bunk ladder "she's spending the night with my parents".
BOY did I feel stupid. The DH felt even worse. He had gotten up in the middle of the night to get some Rolaids and went to check on her and cover her up, like he does everytime he gets up in the middle of the night and freaked out because she wasn't in there.
Terrible, terrible, feeling.

Eww, that's a bad feeling. Hopefully you're making fun of him by now.

This sorta happened to us with our oldest when she was 2.
She got out of bed and went downstairs into the kitchen, and sitting on one of the chairs with her pooh bear, minding her own business, albeit a little scared though

it will be one of those things we laugh about in years to come.
He almost went to my parents house at 2 am to get her to hug her because he was so scared. He said he was up for another hour.
As soon as the panic had passed, I went back to bed and slept soundly until 7:15
It just goes to show you how often she spends the night elsewhere.

About 20 years ago I went shopping with my then 2 year old son. Brian decided to play hide and seek in the clothes carousels. I could not find him for a couple of very desperate minutes. Really scary feeling. My MIL remarked how shaken I looked when we got home...
