Posted: 08/06/04 - 00:13 Post subject: When to go from Sprint -> Olympic Distance Tri?
Any words of advice? Trinewbie here. 2 sprints down, 3 to go this year.
Strong swimmer, Strong Biker, Horribly Slow Runner.
Been focusing on 500m swim, 15m ride, 3m run.
Feelin' good, decided to test my mettle and do a 1 mile swim, cake. 36 minutes.
So I got cocky, went for a 25 mile ride next... cake, 1 hr 30 min.
Run... well, ok, so I still get passed by ladies pushing baby strollers (I swear in BOTH doggon races). Like 17/min a mile.
Obviously, I gotta work on the run. Will do that from now until next season. But any thoughts on when to move up to Olympic distance?

Yeah, I think you're right. I was looking to maybe do an Olympic next Feb in Florida when I'm there, but I can't really find one but there is a Sprint.
re: ramping up, I'll let you know on the Run but the Bike for me was total cake to increase. I've gone from 30 seconds TOTAL run (yeah, it really was that bad) to 20-30 second jogs with a 45-90second recovery. 6 months. Ug. Had a lot of cardio to work on, which the biking/swimming helped! (and elyptical)
I went from 4->8->13->17->20->25 in 6 months. Then again, maybe you think 6months IS a long time, but didn't seem like it to me, seemed nice and smooth and reasonable. My knees agree too =)
thanks!
