Ok...nother one about my PITA boss again. She is a stickler for detail and I can appreciate that, especially in my job. However, she is constantly nit-picking about every little thing....to the point where it's really just pissing me off. My not-so-steller employee sent her an old schedule today, and rather than talking to him and asking him for the updated one, she had to come to me and make a big deal about it. I think that you have to pick and choose those things that you are going to make issues and then let others slide.
Plus, my office is 81 degree....so I am easily pissed off today.

Amen to that. I have a friend who would re-do a paragraph into a 47 page document.

I call them Gloria-Jean, My mother. Dad was not too far off from it either though. I avoid that type of people at all costs and my eyeroll tells them when i had enough.

I am guilty...on some things.
I will redo something 22 times before I'm satisfied with it, then wait and fret to see if it passes muster.
However, in my own defense, I simply glossed over what I thought was a minor detail one time, only for a family to point it out to me.
Better to error on the side of too much attention, rather than too little.

Yabbut, as Philly pointed out, there's a good way and a not so good way for a boss to point stuff out.
Maybe mention it once and let it go. Then maybe a reminder.
But not a full blown tirade for every single instance.
We had that same issue yesterday. A cow-orker who has been very consistent and kind and professional "forgot" to clear an item. I knew that he probably just didn't get the fax that would have given him the info he neeeded to clear that item for sale. My boss who was in posession of said fax went on a tirade about having to fax things two or three times, called at least 4 people in the company complaining about it--then ended up faxing it to him anyway. This is this guy's first time at "dropping the ball" and I am positive he didn't do it on purpose.

When does "detailed" become "picky"?
When it's you doing the work. I've found that people are alot less picky if it's THEIR work.

Well, lighten up butt nut. You need to learn to blame others for your inadequecies. It's the American way.

Usually I just throw something at them. Paper, cup of coffee, stapler, whatever's handy.

The yoyo that checks my tool designs and drawings nitpicks the hell out of them. But he picks on stupid stuff - the way a note is worded or how the mark numbers are sequenced. The design itself is usually over his head and he has a difficult time envisioning the final product from a set of drawings. He is constantly wanting things dimensioned differently and I'll have to go back in and tell him it's dimensioned that way for the machinist or fabricators benefit - not for his reading enjoyment.

That's what I mean. My boss is nit-picking about stupid stuff half of the time.

My boss's boss is always on me to make sure my excel spreadsheets are at A:1 when I close them. So he doesn't get lost.
You know...I try really hard, but by the time I am confident in it's accuracy, I just want to get the damn thing off my desk. So...that kind of steeewpid crap annoys me.
