I'm not sure what to make of this. Unfortunately there is absolutely NO innuendo of any kind...

Kiwis eye Aussie tractor world record
14 May 2005 << Note its tomorrow's news...

The Aussies have a record which tractor-driving Kiwis want.

All they have to do is assemble more than 1901 tractors, working in one paddock, to take the world record off the Australians.

An attempt to set a new tractor tally will be made in Mid- Canterbury in April of next year.

"We are going to have 2006 working tractors for 2006," said Alan Rowlands, a member of the organising committee behind the Kiwi World Tractor Challenge. "Hopefully we will get more.

"The Poms are going to have a go in June after a failed attempt when they only got 700 tractors, so we need to make sure that we get it right."

Overseeing the world record attempt will be two official scrutineers and a helicopter overhead.

The committee has already received a claim identification number - 119714 - from Guinness World Records and have a year to organise the event.

One of the largest working tractors, a 16-tonne John Deere, is already a confirmed starter.

Mr Rowlands said there was some dispute that the Australians had only assembled 1897 tractors for their world record, but this was irrelevant as the objective of the Kiwi attempt was to get more.

A company had been set up to ensure that no club politics would creep into the attempt, with leftover profits to go to a charity for sick children, he said.

The Kirwee farmer was driving a friend's tractor at Cootamunda, New South Wales, when the existing record was set.

His farm was the site of a seven-day event celebrating the 100th anniversary of the tractor last year. More than 6730 vintage tractors assembled for the get-together.

"`We want every man and his dog, plus the youngest and oldest tractors," Mr Rowlands said. "No-one has had a go at this scale in New Zealand."

The New Zealanders plan to set the record on a 32ha paddock at Broad Acres, a farm owned by Peter Butterick, just outside Ashburton.

Under safety regulations, all record participants must be seated, which rules out walk-behind rotary-hoe owners.

Ride-on mowers are, however, acceptable, providing they tow a "soil-engaging implement".

The record has traded freely the past few years since South Africa set a 1999 record of 109 tractors.

Australia has held it twice, reclaiming it in April, 2004, from Ireland which had set the old record of 1832 tractors.

In Saskatchewan instead of smash up derbies they have combine crashes at the local fairs. You know, those huge machines that thresh/mow/bale/harvest just about anything? They smash them into each other.

The winters are long and cold, and the sheep nervous. Or something like that.
They also used to park an old car on like, the only lake in Saskatchewan and then take bets on when the ice would melt and it would fall in.

I would LOVE to go there, my old boss just spent two weeks there in April, but that plane ride I'm not afraid to fly or anything but I would go NUTS being cooped up in a plane for that long.

Gorgeous pictures though, and he said the same thing about the people being really friendly. I know our down under gang here sure is. I wish I could come visit....maybe someday.
