Tornados are fun as long as they don't cause much damage or injury. I enjoy chasing them. |
I WANNA DO THAT!!!
Seriously, my friend Leslie and I are considering going out to the Midwest on one of those Stormchasers trips next year....WOO HOO!!!
I am deathly afraid of heights and am also claustrophic. I am NOT a fun person to take to the Statue of Liberty. |
You can so seriously count me out on that midwestern trip! I don't have any desire chasing funnel clouds. I'll be looking for ya in the Weather Channel though. I think all the tornado drills I did as a kid scarred me for life!

losing my children then losing my mind about it. Worse yet. losing part of my family and losing my mind so that I'm unable to be there for the survivors.

I'm so afraid of this, and am one of those hovering-type moms. I don't even let the 11yo go to the bus-stop (it's 4 houses down) without me in the morning, and I'm waiting outside when the bus lets her off. It only takes a second or two to snatch a kid. I realize I can only do so much, so I do what I can to ensure their safety.

When I lived in Iowa and Ohio I would have reoccuring dreams where I have been swept away in a tornado or I've just survived one hitting my house. I know my fear of them makes me have these terrible dreams during tornado season. I was always watching the skies. |
Hey Nole...I'm adopted, ask your Mom if you have a long lost sister somewhere...I am terrified of Tornados. Growing up in Ohio, I spent many hours in the basement due to tornado watches. (a warning sent me into a huge panic) My family thought it was funny, and refused to join me, so I took the dog.
A few years ago Ft. Worth had a huge storm with tornados, one wiped out downtown. I was in the closet with a b/w tv, the 3 cats, 3 dogs, and my cell phone. My husband thought it was quite hysterical. Next time, I won't save room for him!

I'm really, really claustrophobic. Being stuck in a confined space with no escape route would terrify me.
(That, and the irrational fear of big, crunchy bugs, inside my house, so I'd have to walk around them to get somewhere).

Ending up in the hospital with dirty underwear.
Having my eyes stuck when I look at my nose.
Getting warts on the palm of my hand.

The loss of a child.....I had my young son lose consciousness on me after he had a piece of grilled cheese sandwich lodged in his wind pipe. I tried and tried to dislodge it using the Heimlich maneuver, but, to no avail. He just sat there looking at me, no, pleading with me, to help him, and drooling...and his eyes slowly started to close. I had told the wife to call 911 already and they repsponded within 3 minutes...but it felt like a life time. When the the firefighters came through the front door, they brought a blast of winter air with them which seemed to knock a little life into my son because he stirred. They managed to revive him and get him in the ambulance where he puked and dislodged the item.
I'll never forget it....and sometimes just by thinking about it, I start to sweat and come close to tears and there are even times I'll wake up in the middle of the night sweating and the feeling of having a belt tightened around my chest. The feeling of utter hopelessness in a situation like that is tremendous....and the worst part is beating yourself up about what you could have done better even though you know you did your best. That was 7 years ago and it still haunts me....and it probably always will.
So, I think the loss of a child is #1 on my fears.
