I'll be happy to send the recipe. If I put it in the mail, the cheese might
get even stinkier!

ok, I've noticed something missing in this thread. It is an absolute must that everyone eat SauerKraut, hot dogs, kielbasa, and maybe even dumplings. that is the traditional new year's dinner here! and I don't mean our house, I mean this corner of PA. It's a German/Polish thing (the irish seem to go along with it) Our family started doing it when that Amish woman married into the family back in the 1800's

If you're sending recipes, I'd love the one for the banana split cake!

Aren't blackeyed peas on the menu too? Good Luck for the new year or something? My mom always makes corned beef, cabbage and black-eyed peas.
I think tamales are another traditional thing around here or is that Christmas? I forget

We just got home from Buffalo yesterday and honestly cooking is the last thing on my mind. I'm still recovering. And we have company coming on Saturday that I plan to go all out for, so tonight will probably be simple. Maybe some steaks, and a few simple sides. But I am going to make somethign good for dessert in my new Kitchenaid Mixer.
And no wine or bubbly for me this year.

YUM YUM!!! And pierogies???
We used to do pork and sauerkraut but I wanted to do something different this year. I am just in cooking mode lately since I've had the time to play in the kitchen.

Shur-ul, you're thinking about Hoppin' John for the black-eyed peas. It's supposed to bring good luck in the New Year.

Happy New Year, everyone!
Here's the short version of the night's menu: Italian food and alcohol
The long version:
We ended up going to an Italian restaurant with friends and ate bruchetta and salmon mostaccioli and had the first drink of the night). Then, we went to a Komets game (2nd drink of the night that qualifies as 2 and 3 because it was 24 ounces of Bud --but I have no tolerance, so it did the trick--...they really know how to get you hammered at hockey games). The game was great...our team was winning big and there were over 10,000 people cheering the guys on. Of course, the highlight, though, is when I got lost trying to find my group an aisle over from where they actually were sitting. Dave (practically wetting his pants laughing), one of our friends, leans over to Aaron: I think your wife is following some other guy home. Aaron: Yeah, his name is Bud Wiser.
And then we went to a party and more of the same happened, but everyone was pretty much tanked (but Aaron and Heather the designated drivers).
Now, my daughter is running around the house blowing the New Year's horns: that is my penance for the day.
