Turkey is over-rated. |
I know I was the one who inspired you to post this, but...
I've posted in another thread, in a galaxy far, far away, that instead of "Turkey Day" it should be renamed "Sweet Potato Day"
...for there is no more versatile Thanksgiving Day food...
baked SP, mashed SP, SP pie...

I don't know...its turning out to be sort of a wacky/sad holiday season in the Pfff family (I don't know why I sound surprised, we haven't had a normal one since....ever?) so whatever we have, my one sister and I will probably cook it, and there is a strong possibility right now that it will be shrimp creole (LONG story) which I like...but....I just want turkey, and stuffing...or I could eat nothing but pb&j if it means everyone would be happy and HEALTHY.

I'm sorry. I hope things work out. If you want turkey, you can always visit us. Only one of us isn't exactly healthy either. Good vibes to you....

Good vibes here too pfffffff........ I know how much of a bummer it is when your usual traditions get disrupted.
Mine's still coming together. Early confirmations are:
Turkey (brining method to be determined) and we may just do a turkey breast since it's a small crowd this year
Sweet potato casserole with streusel topping (HH, you would LOVE this)
Stuffing-not sure whether I'll do a cornbread/sausage or oyster/mushroom with potatoes in it
Corn for my roomie who hates veggies
Roasted pears with blue cheese and brandy sauce
I'm debating whether to try out a roasted brussels sprout recipe I just got, supposedly they don't taste so yucky roasted
If not, then probably this spinach dish my friend's mom makes
Homemade cranberry chutney, a great Cooking Light recipe
Homemade tangerine sorbet and pumpkin cheesecake
All subject to change at the chef's whim......and pending the arrival of one more cooking mag that hasn't come yet.

Probably will have Turkey. Maybe mashed potatoes and rolls. Not too sure beyond that.

I am sure we will be having the traditional type foods. This will be the 1st Thanksgiving in 5 years that I haven't hosted at my place. I just whipped up a cheese spread to bring and I may cook up a pheasant or two to share with those who like such things.

I NEVER liked brussel sprouts, because I always had eaten them when they were overcooked. If they are cooked properly, they are delicious. If you'd like, I'll get the resident chef to give you his cooking preparation for them, because watever he does to them, they are crunchy and sweet and good! The other issue with them that we have had problems with down here; if they have been harvested too early they can be bitter and then they suck.

We drive north and vist my in-laws and then his in-laws. Pretty similiar spread, except my mom makes this
Waldorf apple salad-apple slices, mayonaiise, marshmellows, marachino cherries I think...it's really weird...does anyone else eat this?
My in-laws dinner pretty traditional, except it is always 1-2 hour late. Which is fine, except for my husband, the diabetic, who needs to eat on time. And then the fact, that dinner itself rarely ends before 8 pm, and we have a 2 hour drive home then..

We're going to the in-laws house. I'm bringing chocolate chip cookies. We usually have the traditional stuff!

I'll be making a green bean casserole for our family dinner. Everyone else will be bringing the usual t-giving food.
