Bloody hell PH, you're a bit unlucky. Have you considered taking maybe a full week off and maybe some of the things that are preventing you from training may ease up in that time, or is that not a possibility? I really don't have any other suggestions that I can think of right now.

Hi, PH. You may have to take it easy for a while. Walking will work for now to stay in shape and keep the muscle aches that you'll get from going from very active to inactive down. Eventually you're gonna have to get back on that cycle. I crashed BADLY on skates two years ago and took about all the skin off the right lower side of my body. Vitamin e and tea tree oil will help with healing that BTW. The first time I got back on skates I was scared you know what-less. Wore out a brake in about 2 weeks. Eventually, ya get over it.
You don't want to be in a pool with open wounds. It's going to slow the healing process, and add other assorted health risks
If I were you, howver, I'd be more concerned about the rib/back thing. How well have you hadf that checked? If it's hurting your back too, you may want to get that looked at agin, especially if our rib (s) are hurting as well. A cracked rib is not fun, and can lead to some more serious issues if you try to work yourself too hard on it. I am not a doctor, but if you are having that much pain with that rib I'd be very careful about trying anything over actively funky until I knew it was better. As much as I like to tout yoga, I'd be suspect to do anything like that until you know what's going on with that rib. Good luck, and I hope everything works out OK.
I know taking time off sucks, but take care of yourself first. Better to take a little time off now than a lot later.

I feel your pain indeed. I won't repeat myself because you more than anybody know the saga.
I can tell you this. Flesh heals, bones mend and the next years season will come along. Take some time for yourself and your fam. Enjoy the things in life that an athlete will never enjoy. What you say might that be.
Things I would do if I had some time off from training:
1. Watch a whole day of TV.
2. Read a book that has nothing to do with sports or training.
3. Go on vacation without straping the bike to the car.
4. Have the energy to make love to my wife for a few hours, or days.
5. Play with the dog.
6. Eat something totally guilty.
7. Not be sore.
8. Not be grouchy and sore.
9. Wake up after 5 AM
10. Go to bed after 9 PM.
11. Not stress about missing a workout.
12. Go to the beach to relax instead of open water swim drills.
13. Not have dirty fingers from cleaning my bike all the time.
14. Save money on laundry. I have alot of dirty clothes form training.
15. MOST IMPORTANT- Spend a few quality moments with my wife.

Sheldon said it well, as did everyone else too! Being benched for the last 6 weeks has started to teach me to work out for fun, not stress about what I can't do (run) and focus on what I can do, including non-training things like renting a movie and relaxing while I watch it, spending some time with my friends hanging out, getting some stuff done around the house that I have not had time to do, and things like that. When's the last time you actually read a good book that was not about training??
It's tough, believe me, it sucks not being able to train, fortunately I can do some stuff, but it isn't running. But having all this time to think is seriously making me reevaluate what's important in life. I love running and can't wait to get back into it, but there are, as Sheldon says, other things in life out there to enjoy as well. I think I'm going to come back with a whole new attitude about training when I get the green light. I hope, anyway.....
Hang in there buddy, you'll be back.......
