Posted: 02/09/06 - 14:26 Post subject: What a nice surprise (w/wine question)
Today I went to a property that I have had a tenant in because I needed to pick up the keys for the next tenant. I told the homeowner that I would do him a favor and take pictures of his place with furniture in it so he could more easily rent his property (since he lives in NYC and the condo is about 5 miles from my house). To my surprise my last tenant had left behind some nice items:
1. Two bottles of wine
2. One bottle of champagne
3. One jar of organic peanut butter
4. One box of oatmeal
5. 4 bottles of sparkling water
None have been opened!
My wine question is: This wine was in the fridge. Is it okay for me to now have it just sitting in my pantry (I have no room in the fridge) or will that somehow make it go bad? (Obviously I am not a wine expert!).

First off, was the wine white or red?
Second, what year is the wine dated?

That box of oatmeal must have set him back $1.50. That was very generous of him.

The Champagne should be fine for a few years. The other two I would drink this year. The change in temp shouldn't make a big difference, it's more going from one extreme to the next and back again.
And hey, if you open them down the road and they taste like crap, you can dump 'em - they were free, no?

Don't forget the Boone's!
Oh, and the Nicolas Feuillatte Champagne = 20 Boone's at $1.99. See if the local liquor store will make the swap and I'm there!

Be sure to store them on their side or else the cork will dry up. Esp important with the champagne.
All white wines are best served cold (in the 40 deg range)
