I wrote to the Greater Gwinnett Road Runners about a rumor I heard that there wouldn't be any more Run the Reagan races. Here's a copy of the response I got.

Quote:
It's true, there will no longer be a Run the Reagan. The county spent overtime to close and open it, pressure from the stores that were inconvenienced by the road being closed, and the wonderful citizens who called and complained about their tax dollars being wasted on the road being closed for recreational purposes. And of course those are the people the county hears from and not the people who enjoyed the parkway being closed!!
We were lucky to have 10 years!!

I'm really disappointed that they won't be having this race any more. cry

Wow, what a loss of a great event. I was looking forward to running the Reagan again this year.

Do you suspect a relation to the President's death that he's just not mentioning?

I few races here have been canceled for the same thing burning mad

Why encourage Americans to fight obesity and have self improvement goals instead of being self-centered-lazy-uptight PITAs.

seriously, there are probably over 100 businesses that are along that race route, including white water, and labor day is one of the top three busiest days of the season... id like to know how many of those places are irked because they can open unitl after 10am....

PH, did they close down RR parkway for the entire day?

There are few business along the RR Parkway, but it is a main connection between Snellville and Lawrenceville. And I've heard a couple of people from my office affected by the closing for the day complain about the detour they have to take.

I think it may be the all day closing of the Ronald Reagan Parkway that upsets the Snellville and Lawrenceville folks as opposed the races themselves.

So, what are we going to do now for a Georgia get together since the Reagan is closed. Are there some other half marathons/10ks north of I285 that would fit the bill? I'm not a big fan of the Atlanta Marathon/half although I enjoy working the packet pick-up area one of the nights before it.

That sucks. I enjoyed that race last year. (But then again, I have fond memories of all races where I set PR's.)

We definitely should shoot for another Fall/North Atlanta area Riff Raff meeting/race.
