As of Wednesday I am now owner of Fitness On Main. I've worked their for 4 years. Who owns/owned their own business, and what's the best piece of advice you can give me? I've already learned that I'm among the over worked and under paid. Today is 14 1/2 hours! WTF was I thinkin'!

depending on the type of business entity - you are the one at risk and you are the one exposed - act accordingly (you probably do).
Otherwise congratulations - this country needs moe people with that entrepreneur spirit

Go Deb...Go Deb...I know this is a dream come true for you, babe.....just don't let it burn you out too much. You'll relax when you've gotten accustomed to it and be able to hire another manager or so to take up some of those hours. It all comes with the growth process.

Moral of the story: Good things happen to good people.
It's a nice little gym, especially for a small town (got a tour of it when I was there for the Big Cat run). And no doubt about it - Deb is a perfect hands-on type of owner for this place.
For what it was worth, you've gotten my advice, and from what you told me, you are approaching things the right way. Just don't try to do too much too soon, and you'll be fine.
Oh yeah - this does not relieve you of your coaching duties. Nice try.

That is exciting news! The hard work will pay off. There are few things as satisfying as having your own business... although you're right, it's very hard work. Sounds like you'll be a total success, though, 'cause you're willing to put in the long hours. Congratulations!
