We braved the NJ Turnpike and the streets of NYC to pick up Lenka today.

It took the kids about 30 minutes to really warm up to her. She came from a small town in Slovakia and her first experience of the USA was NYC. We told her at our house we have grass and trees. She is very excited and is jumping right in with the kids. She has been doing puzzles and walking around outside with them.

We have a lot of work to do in a few days with her mainly with driving and knowing where JJ and Hannah's schools are. She told me she will be ready to drive tomorrow. I like her eagerness.

The kids are doing well with the Kasia adjustment. They know Lenka is now here to watch them and seem really to be okay. Even though Kasia was a major part of their lives, they seem to realize that she is moving on.

She loves our house and street and again remarked like Kasia how big everything is in America. Our roads, highways, cars, houses, stores. Wait until she goes grocery shopping!

We are very glad about our choice of Lenka. I know it is a matter of time before Greg wants his list of Slovak curses.

does she already know how to drive (so she just has to get used to american driving) or is she a relative newbie behind the wheel?

she does know how to drive. It is a requirement prior to coming to the states. American cars are bigger, faster and so are the people driving them. Most of the traffic laws are similar, then again one of the first things I give her is as get out of jail free card. And if she gets stops, I told them to have the officer call me asap.
