so about 30 minutes ago, First grade is coming into my room. I stand at the door and send the students in. I hear some noise, look in the room and a little girl is face down on the floor. When she sits up it is obvious that she has fallen into the chair, cut her head and is bleeding. a lot. head wounds bleed so much! I call for help, get some tissues to catch the blood, and they are soaked quickly. I'm rubbing her back, calming her, she keeps asking if its gonna hurt her brain. my principal said it looks like she'll need stitches.
so while 5 or 6 adults are running around getting a wheelchair, calming the girl, calling the parents, occupying the rest of the class, one little girl gets sick puke
so now, I've got blood and puke in my room.

yeah this is what I wanted to do today.

I've got an accident report to fill out.

I've got a real nervous feeling now, very upset. I'm showing a video to the third graders right now, just so I can recover and fill out the accident report.

Okay so...one girl cut her head.

The other girl puked at the blood or was she just going to puke anyway?

Enquiring minds want to know.

And look at the bright side...at least no one sneezed a nose load without knowing where it went....

I'm feeling a bit better now, thanks. I'm thinking that when she comes back, we'll get a picture of the injury and use it to warn kids about what can happen when they don't follow directions.

otoh, this district doesn't exactly take care of things as they should, this building is over 30 years old, and this is the original carpet in my room. it is held together by duct tape. there are ridges where the adhesive has let go of the rug. it's very possible that she tripped because of the condition of the rug, in which case, the parents ought to go after the school district.

She wasn't following directions when this happened? Even so it would seem pretty harsh to me to objectify her for being a kid that tests limits. Hopefully you were just kidding about the picture.

just kidding about the picture. it's possible she wasn't following directions, they like to run when they get in my room (big open space from my door to the chairs.) it's also possible that the crappy carpet caused her fall.

it was a deep cut. she has seven stitches and will stay home from school tomorrow. She even asked to talk to the secretary at school, who helped me out with her after I got her to the nurses office. she wanted to let her know that she is fine and that the stitches are blue!
