By "go after" surely you don't mean sue, right? If you meant they should use the example only for the purpose of getting new carpet in the building, I agree.

Parents have the power to effect change. I'd hope that there are ways other than a lawsuit in which they could bring about the changes needed. However, the threat of legal action is highly motivating. If the parents do not at least investigate their options, the school district will continue as they have in the past.

never felt like a hero. instead I felt helpless, ineffectual, unprepared, and sick at the sight of the blood and puke. God bless those people who become nurses and can handle that stuff. I know I can't.

Its VERY disheartening when little kids are in pain. That's the tough part. Its not unusual for my wife to encounter a few "banged up" kids from intramurals in her office when she first walks in.
Just to show how dumb administrators can be - up to two years ago the nurses started at 0800. Intramurals started at 0700; that means for an hour there was NO NURSE coverage. Reason ? Keep costs down - not realizing they could be sued for lots more than a nurse salary if some kid really got hurt.
And.. we won't even talk about adult staff members who don't like what my wife tells them. Like "your MD just told me to send you to the hospital because your BP is too high".
