This has been a really enjoyable topic (I love any conversation that can include both the 'defenestration of Prague' and the great Guffman "Assface!" ) but I think the original premise is wrong.

I think we simply use more than 500 words a day. I mean toddlers going into Kindergarten with less than privileged upbringings can have 'vocabulary deficiencies' of 500-1000 words or more compared with their better prepared counterparts. And they're 5!

They haven't held jobs, gone to high school, learned to talk about the minutia of car engines, or fishing, or running, haven't discovered reading past 'dog' and 'cat', let alone been forced to suffer through the SAT or GRE.

So I think the 500 word thing is off-base.

But I do love Assface!!!! Wink

Roacher: based on your previous posts, I have come to the conclusion if you wish to match wits with Samuel Clemens (Mark Twain for our untutored friends), you'll need to increase the use of your brain and stop using the "jawbone of an ass" you've been operating with...

Seton Hall right? I wasn't trying to match wits with Mr. Twain, I was looking for inspiration. Oh, and you should be very familiar with removal of entrails since that is what UCONN's basketball team has done for years to the South Orange Pirates. Wink

No, now lets not get snippy. Its the SETON HALL Pirates not the South Orange Pirates. Be that as it may, I suppose YOUR school gets rated and winds up in the NCAA tournament also. As soon as you reveal your loyalties, I'll be happy to put your school on my list right along with Syracuse and Michigan State.

I'm glad to see you looked up the meaning of eviscerate. If you do disembowel yourself, may I be allowed to look over the disjecta membra to predict not just the NFL Season but the NCAA Tourney results ?
