I would bet the lower forty that someone will start using the above as their signature line. |
Who would do that?

You forgot to add diminutive and mercurial to your descriptive diatribe which quantifies that you are not as erudite than you think.
Oh how I wish for the rapier wit of Samuel Clemens on days like these

To "defenestrate" means throw something out of the window. The Thirty Year's War began after the envoy of the Holy Roman Emperor was thrown out of a window by angry residents of Prague. Hence the "Defenestration of Prague".

I suppose if you say you're diminutive and mercurial, I should avoid thinking what you say is inane, inispid and sophomoric.

Years ago dh and I were playing Scrabble. Now, I love to play Scrabble. I wait and wait for that perfect tile to spell out "hyperbole", even though I have the letters for "hole". That's the sort of player I am. Okay, so you are only allotted 7 tiles. There are 9 in "hyperbole". Get over it. You get the idea. So I come up with "lithe". The rules are, if there is a dispute, if the word is not in this cheap little dictionary, then it is not allowed. It was not in this cheap little dictionary...but IT was in the dictionary on our computer. Doesn't matter. Those aren't the rules. Word was not allowed. "Lithe" would have wallopped his sorry "boat" and "can".

I'm really curious if you even know what eviscerate means. If you did, you certainly would not use it to defend your position.

Same problem many years ago; I had the word "vole" (A small field mouse) No one I was playing with believed it was a real word. They kept insisting they would have allowed "mole". Sheesh !!

Perhaps it is YOU who corrupted HER? |
I don't know about that. That would be awfully boastful, seeing how she is. |
Until this moment, I had no idea how much you resembled a cast iron pot. Who'da thunk? |

Listen to an average conversation and you will hear lots of repeated words.
If you listen to a conversation between some (mostly GenX) people (reguadless of sex) you will hear a lot of four letter words.
Don't get me wrong, I can blast off with the best of them. I just don't think its necessary to use these words in a polite and reasoned conversation. |
I am gen X myself and find that most of my friends cannot converse in a gramatically correct fashion. Another 4 letter word used, most often, is 'like'. It is used as a filler for regular adjectives. I have made that mistake myself because of my friends..
Going on the same lines.. how many of you hate it when somebody answers your question or suggestion/correction with a 'whatever'. It makes me wanna
