Posted: 01/10/04 - 11:10 Post subject: We just selected our next Au Pair
Kasia, our current Au pair is due to leave in April. So we started to select new au pairs.
The first application we received was from a young lady from Romania who has loads of experience with special needs children in Romania.
She is 26 years old and has degree in teaching from Romania.
Robin and I were both impressed with her application.
I spoke with the young lady today and had a nice chat. I even talked real real slow because her English only fair. She was very excited and anxious to come to the U.S.
It though will be sad to see Kasia leave because the kids really took a liking to her.

That I would've liked to have seen - didn't think you COULD talk slow!
How come Kasia can't stay? Just curious.

US State Dept regulations state that the Au Pair's can only stay 51 weeks, that is how long their visa is valid. It is very similar to an exchange student program.

That's kind of sad. Can she come back later?

Ditto,,especially since it sounds like the children bonded with her to a point. Isn't there new legislation in the works for people who overstay visas to be able to work here legally? I'm not advocating this by any means, but I saw something the other day. Maybe it's a Florida thing?
