Bella is sitting at her table working out math problems. I am watching her thinking, and taking her pencil absentmindedly (we hope) and sticking it gently into the many orifices above her neck. She tries the nostrils, each one, not too far up. She takes it out, looks at it, it's obviously considered clean enough to stick in her ear. Gently. She takes it out, looks at it. In the other ear. That one musta been yucky... wipes it on her overall. Taps it on her head...

This is funny, too. An email from a friend who leaves this weekend for a family wedding in California:
"Did I tell you what's happening when I arrive in San Diego. All my family is too busy to pick me up, so my Uncle is having on of his friends, who doesn't know me, come pick me up. He'll have a cell phone, so we can call each other and figure out where we are.
I told him thanks, but no thanks; I'll just grab a cab instead. To which he answers a cab can cost up to $20, and my street is kind of obscure.
$20? I ask. No kidding. I thought it would be more. I'll certainly rack up more than that talking on my cell phone with this guy trying to find him. And if your street's obscure, why dont' you give me directions to your place.
So now I have the directions, but this guy is still coming for me. In order to identify him, he's supposed to be holding a computer print out of one of the reviews I wrote on line.
Yeah. This sounds like good plan."

reminds me of watching my students at school when they have to use my pencils.....some of them will try to hand them back to me and I say "Just put it in the pencil cup!"
I have had students ask to borrow a kleenex! no, honey, you can keep it when you're through with it.
