PostPosted: 11/06/02 - 20:46    Post subject: Vent thread about a minor situation at work...
Background:
At our work place they publish a weekly email newsletter that gets sent out to all the employees. And they are always asking for submissions about groups getting together and doing things.
Situation:
A couple of weeks ago the Y that operates out of our building complex helped organize teams for the Corporate Cup 5K Run/walk race that is held every year. (This is the race i just PR'ed at!) Any way we ended up entering 7 teams and a total of 75 people. They give trophys for having the most employees that enter and for individual teams that have the top 2 men and 1 woman that place for each team.

Our Number 1 team took the 3'rd place overall tropy behind 2 ringer teams.
Then our 2nd team took first in the Insurance Company division and our number 3 team took third! We have won the Insurance Division for 4 years running now.

Everyone that entered the race paid their own way and paid for their own tank tops that helped to show we were all a team.

:sidenote:
The team that won the trophy for the most employees (and spouses), over 200 people, paid for everyones entry fee and gave them dinner certificates!
:/sidenote:

Anyway someone does a short write up describing how well we did and submit it for publication. The people in charge of the newsletter reply back that it won't be published since Blue Cross Blue Shield of Florida did not "SPONSOR" the race. I am not sure of the wording of the response so I apoligize. I am only passing on what I know.

I don't know why but I think it is crazy that they would reply that way. Everyone that ran the race trained real hard for it. And for them to come back and say that really irked me. We were all out there representing our company that most of us like working for.

Any way thanks for letting me vent.

Maybe I'm stupid, but do you work for/at BCBS? Also, isn't the Y a part of your company's employee benefits and therefore a part of the company? It's on the premises, you guys use it (and I bet get payroll deducted to be able to use it), and I also bet that your company uppity-ups encourage employee participation in the Y.
Write them back and tell them that even though BCBS didn't 'sponsor' this event, X number of employees participated in the event and should be mentioned. It's about the employees, stupid.

Dang FB that stinks that they won't publish that. A great team building event, free publicity for the company, and it did not cost them a dime. Something isn't right there.

What a bunch of knotheads! Fla is right, it's about the employees....and what better way to encourage people to support future events like this but to praise those who did? Jackasses.......you have every right to be ticked off, FB!

(Congrats on the PR by the way, I might have missed that post!)

FLA,
Yes the Y at our business complex is right on the premises. First floor of my building no less!(Yeah, short walk) It is optional to join and you pay your membership via payroll deduction. They have multiple levels of membership etc.

I don't know how much they uppities encourage it but it is there for your use. That was the one perk I promised myself when I went from Contractor to Permanent employee.

I have calmed down now as have most of us. We have gotten sort of used to it here. Since I don't have exact details on why the article was denied etc. I don't feel like fighting it. The news was posted on the Closed Circuit TV that is in every building though! So we got half of it.
