On Wednesday, I learned about a conference I wanted to attend in Charlottesville, VA on Friday. On Thursday, I learned there was this 5K going on there.

Less than a year ago, I thought I would never be able to run again, much less race again. After some PT I began to run a little bit last May. I haven't done any racing. But I thought, hey, if I'm going to be running on a treadmill at this hotel in Charlottesville anyway, I may as well run with some people and get a T-shirt. It benefitted Amnesty Int'l, so why not?

I got out there with about 300 other people and told myself that if I were dead last, if the police car was pushing my behind toward the finish line, well that was just fine with me.

I had been running 3.1 on the tread in about 35 minutes. Not very fast, but as I say, I don't plan to race so I don't much care about speed. Still, I wondered if I would be a little bit faster outside. What I did not realize is that Charlottesville is in the mountains, and it is a pretty hilly place.

Anyway, I put on a good show, I wasn't dead last, I managed the hills pretty well, and I did the whole thing in 32:14. I was so happy to be out on a beautiful sunny morning, running with like-minded folk. It was just super, and has me pumped up for another 5K that Rex and I are going to do together next month.
