Posted: 02/11/04 - 09:32 Post subject: Vacation report #1.
I think I'm going to have to break this down into short stories!!
Got to Jamaica on Feb 3. We sat on the plane for an hour before we took off for de-icing, but the weather in Jamaica was awesome! Mostly in the 80's and sunny. It rained a few times while there but it didn't really last long.
After the plane ride we had a 2 hour bus ride to our resort. The driver made it fun with beer stops along the way and he pointed out things of intrest. Some people were freaking out at his driving, it was different. They have very narrow winding roads and everyone seems to drive like a maniac. It was like riding a roller coaster for 2 hours!
I think I drank more in the last week than I have the last 5 years of my life. ha ha. Tried just about every drink they had. Discovered I really don't like their rum, and it really, really don't like me.
Met a group of people down there all from the St. Louis area (we flew down and back on the same plane). They were a hoot!
We stayed at an all-inclusive resort, but I really didn't think it was all they cracked it up to be. The fitness room wasn't great at all, so I didn't use it at all. They had 5 or 6 restaurants but most of them were only open in the evening and you had to make reservations. So we mostly ate at the cafe and their extensive menu of hamburgers and hotcats. The buffet wasn't bad either when you could catch it at the right time.
The party animals that we are we were usually in bed by 7 or 8 PM. Sitting around by the pool or beach drinking really wears you out.
I was a little home sick by Thursday, and yesterday I could not wait to get home. Today I got up to get Nichole ready for school and I feel like I have a hang over. We didn't drink a drop yesterday either. But I'm glad to be home.
That's pretty much my vacation in a nut shell, I'll tell you about various adventures as I recall them.

Great report Akern!
The roads in Jamaica are interesting to say the least, and driving/riding on them is an adventure in itself!
Sound like you had a great time!
The wifey and I are planning to go there in a couple of years...when the babies are old enough to spend some time without us.

No. The beach is great and all but I'm tired of having sand in all my cracks.

Sounds like a great trip, especially the early to bed part. That's my idea of a great life.

I hope you weren't drinking the overproof!! I should have warned you; that's like firewater/mountain dew/moonshine. Not good, and you have to tell them no overproof, Mount Gay or Bacardi instead.
Glad you had fun! The roads/driving are a mess, but amusing. Did you go cliff-diving? (Please tell me I am not the only woman in the history of Rick's to be dumb enough to jump off of the high cliff).

I learned very quickly about the overproof. They are working on a new highway between Montego Bay and Ocho Rios that actually looks like it will be wide enough for 2 cars!!
No cliff diving for me. I would have done it but we never went to Ricks. We went straight to Ocho Rios. We did climb Dunns river falls. I guess that's not quite the same.
