Posted: 08/13/04 - 23:54 Post subject: Vacation me!
Next week is the last week before school starts and I've got a couple extra bucks so I'm thinking about taking a relatively short jaunt somewhere. I have about 5 days total (Sunday 4pm- Friday 4pm), but more likely Monday-Thursday. I suppose anything within about 10-12 hours drive is fair game, or about 750 miles if you prefer. I'd be camping or sleeping in the car everywhere, so keep that in mind. I'm up for anything really (as long as it doesn't involve crossing parts of Texas(though who can really cross Texas in less than 10 hours?))... where should I go? What should I do?

Not sure how long it would take you to get there but VA Beach has a great KOA Campground. It is very close to the beach and there are lots of great places to run there!

Mapquest says: 1126 miles and it takes 18.5 hours to drive the distance. ("Go the distance.")
Isn't it supposed to rain all along the coast?

How about a central US tour of RR members? We have a few in Kentucky and I'm up in central Indiana.

Between the two, here in southwestern Ohio.

Hmmm....let's see what Mapquest says....
Baton Rouge to Lexington, KY - 798 mi./12.5 hours
Baton Rouge to Indianapolis, IN - 846 mi./13 hours
Baton Rouge to Cincinnati, OH - 861 mi./13 hours
Baton Rouge to Virginia Beach, VA - 1126 mi./18.5 hours
Baton Rouge to Washington, D.C. - 1141 mi./18 hours
Looks like Lexington is at the very edge of the range. I don't know about anyone else but after 12 hours behind the wheel, my butt's tired.
Of course, Baton Rouge to Jacksonville is a ten-hour drive and just over 600 miles and making it to Atlanta is even easier - 8.5 hours and 544 miles...very well within the limits set.

Why would anyone ever want to go to Atlanta?

I thought that everyone would be too polite (or is it, polite enough?) to not ask that question.
But I hear that they've done wonders there in the last 140 years...fixed the place up and stuff like that...

Heat and humidity? But then again, you've already got that.
