Is anyone planning to watch?
Do you really think they will make much difference, unless someone does something really stupid?
Who do you think....not who you WANT, but who do you think will win and why?

- I am!
- I don't unless Cheney really screws up. Edwards is far more likeable from a personality standpoint and if Cheney doesn't lose the Dr. Evil persona and come off more like he did in the debates with Lieberman in 2000, he's in deep poop after Bush's poor showing last week.
- I honestly think Cheney doesn't have much of a chance, not because he's not intelligent, cuz he seems to be and he did well with Lieberman, but because Edwards is a) a lawyer and therefore better at debating and b) more personable and will appeal to the swing voters.

Now.you.go.

Is it possible that Cheney's "Dr Evil" persona will actually help him in the debates? I don't know, I'm just asking.

I would tend to agree that Edwards has a better chance because of his lawyer background, but I guess it really depends on how well he has a grasp of the issues they'll be quizzed on too.

I saw him speak at the Kerry campaign rally in Erie last night on CNN or one of those stations, I forget which, and he was saying a lot of what the people want to hear. My right wing fanatical roomie, of course, was foaming at the mouth and saying a lot of it was lies, which remains to be seen.......

I see where you're going with the Dr. Evil thing, and initially, before I saw the Bush/Kerry fiasco (you know it's bad when said roomie thinks Bush sucked) I thought so too, that he'd make mincemeat out of Edwards because Edwards is "too nice." The gloves were off last night though, he took a couple good shots at Bush, something he's not done for much of the campaign and something he didn't do hardly at all during the Demo prez primaries. I always thought he was the gentleman of the two of them and Kerry was the wannabe punk ass, but he's got a mean side too I think.

Right now, Cheney has a LOT of ground to make up for Bush's sucko performance and the polls are showing it. This is getting worrisome. I wish Edwards had gotten the nomination, it would make my choice a lot easier. I really can't STAND Kerry but Bush has let a lot of his supporters down and I'm wondering if they can hold on long enough to win.

genie,

I know you've mentioned various reasons why you want to vote for Bush, but what's the single biggest reason?

Also, are you voting for Bush, or for ABK? Smile

Watching it. Can't wait to see Edwards take on Cheney.
I wonder if Cheney will have the same facial tics that Bush did.

Whether or not it will make a difference I don't know. If Cheney starts dropping "F" bombs then it may make it less than a snooze fest and provide some SNL fodder. If Edwards can remain calm and reiterate the things that Kerry did in the Pres debate then it might change a few minds or make the undecided to move closer to making a decision.

I think Edwards will win if he keeps his cool and articulates key points.

I don't recall as either Cheney or Edwards has been all that nice this fall. Their whole point is to be the attack dog that #1 can't be.

It will be interesting to see them face off, but I don't think it will change minds.

In the beginning, I was a Bush supporter. I agree with tax cuts, I trust him way more on matters of national security than Kerry any day, however I don't agree with him on a lot of key social issues, especially the stem cell research, gay marriage and women's rights issues (out of respect for PH I am not using the A word Wink ) and euthanasia. I'm wrestling now with what I want to give up by voting for him, especially as a woman, and what I'd be getting in return. If I do end up voting for him, it'll definitely be more of an ABK vote than a WOO HOO Bush Rocks vote, so that's why I am still not sure if I'm voting at all. (Nader isn't even an option in my book, and Badnarich, the Libs' candidate, doesn't have the resume to even consider him).

If Cheney loses his cool, his poker face is gone and if this happens I fully expect Bush's facial ticks and worse. Based on how quickly Bush became impatient, he may lose it. I don't expect F-bombs (although Holy Wardrobe Malfuctions FCC, how fun would that be?). SNL no doubt will have a hayday no matter what...

Regarding the undecided's, The Daily Show has some thoughts on the undecideds

I thought that initially too, but remember how laid back Lieberman was, although that's his personality anyway, and part of the reason, so sayeth the pundits, was because Gore came on like a freight train and he was doing damage control. That's kinda where I was going on the Cheney making up for some of Bush's screwups thing. But you're right....Cheney hasn't been and needs to really work at it, and Edwards has turned the corner and shown his fangs a bit lately.

I think the only influence it may have is over swing voters, not those already planted in either camp.

G, not attacking, very curious...but,

I disagree with enough of what Bush has already done and represents (spending out of control, abortion rights, gay marriage, etc) that I can't in good conscience vote for him for what I do support knowing he and I are diametrically opposed on other issues, some of which could affect me personally.

Sounds like you disagree with Bush on many of his major platforms. What would it take for you to go the other way?
