Using regular time trials on the track ,road, or trail is a great way to measure your fitness. Keep a record of your times in your training log. This gives you measurement for your fitness. Doing them on the track allows you to monitor your pace. For road and trail runs, pick a place to have a time check to determine how that time trial is going. Time trials prepares you for the mental focus you need in races.
