Posted: 05/11/03 - 14:56 Post subject: Under new management
We just had a big restructuring of our management at the po po. Instead of our Lt. we (patrol division) now report directly to the deputy police chief.
He is a quiet reserved smart man.
It is also a great change in our police philosophy here.
Our Lt. was number crazy. More tickets, more arrests, etc.
Our residents were complaining about not seeing police. We have had a lot of business burglaries because of the focus on arrests and tickets, not policing.
Many of the guys here (me included) are way in favor of the philosophy change. Instead of running speed or sitting on a stop sign. We want to get out in the streets and making contacts with the people.
Our Sgt a 25 year veteran is acting like a rookie now he is so excited.
There is a new attitude here at the station and I really am liking it.
We were tired of just being expected to show our actions. Sometimes policing is more than arrests and tickets.
I hope it is a good thing. Most guys here are cautious and taking a wait and see approach.

Sounds like the change is great for morale. Will getting out and "showing the colors" have a dramatic impact on burglaries? I bet it would. What happened to the Lt.? Is he still with the force?

We believe it will.
Lt. was reassigned to administration and traffic safety. Nothing to do with patrol what so ever. He is a bit of a "boob" and not well liked by the patrol division. He was numbers crazy. He logged 16 categories of statistics and weighed them all equally. So if you did more patrol and less arrests, you were looked at worse than a guy who just wrote tickets and made arrests.
It is a big change for patrol. All four patrol sgts. are behind it all the way.
