U.S. FIGHTER JETS FLYING ABOVE WHITE HOUSE... The U.S. Capitol and White House were evacuated Wednesday and alarms range through the buildings. War planes were seen flying overhead and security cars rushed away from the building. Reporters in the White House were told to move to a more secure location.

They also have SAMs on top of the White House.
Best to know where you are flying these days.

Kentucky Governor Ernie Fletcher not long ago evacuated the state capitol in Frankfort when his personal plane went into the no-fly zone over the state capitol building. News all over the place inciting terror. Oh wait, nope! Its just the governor, carry on.

no joke, having been a son of a small plane pilot i can tell you that the maps are not hard to follow of what is restricted. around there most of the space in restricted just due to the fact that there are two major airports in the region, a 3rd not far off either.
yup it will be a while before he flies again i think.

Just walking onto an active runway at a local airfield is a $10,000.00 fine and possible jail time.
I am guessing...lose the plane, lose the pilot ticket, huge fine (never pay it off in his/her lifetime) and some jail time may be in the cards....

He evacuated the DC area as well but they learned later that he actually had been cleared to fly and land there to participate in Reagan's funeral.

Having been a pilot myself I would have to disagree with you. It is difficult to manuever around the no-fly zone in the DC area...and it has recently changed (added no-fly space). I can see where it would be a mistake some people would make...which is why I gave up my pilot lessons when I moved to this area. I just don't want to make that mistake!

you know what? i'm a naieve stay at home mom who wouldn't be capable of earning a pilot's license in this life or my next one either, but even I would know that one does not "turn off one's radio" and fly within 3 miles of the white house without having some kind of backlash in the air...what the hell was this idiot thinking???? was he absent on september 11th?
i can not believe we did not shoot this plane down. period. if this is the kind of icehole that gets a pilots license, i am damn glad no one in my family is remotely connected with flying their own small plane.
yes, we look like idiots. big f'ing idiots.
i haven't seen any news footage or heard anything on this story since yesterday so pardon me if there has been some undisclosed fact that i don't know....like he fell into a coma while at the wheel and can't be held responsible for what he did.....or maybe he was held at gunpoint in the cockpit and forced to fly into the zone he did or he'd lose his ever-loving life right there in his own plane....excuse me if i'm missing something and, if so, i apologize to the idiot flying that plane.
i hope he never gets near another winged thing as long as he breathes.

Oh, I never said this guy wasn't an idiot. They shot flares at him, had a jet on either side of him. THOSE were totally stupid things not to just let pass you by. I was just commenting that the no fly zone is not an easy thing to get around...especially since it has changed in the recent past and if you are just a "Saturday afternoon pilot" and have never been to the DC area you could easily go into the no fly zone without realizing it. I don't know much about this guy but he doesn't seem to have all the screws tightened in his head.
