Anyone else thinking about these? I just put in my app. for the 10 mile lottery. It's open from now until July 20th, so get moving if you are interested! I think the marathon is open to anyone.
I tried getting in last year, but didn't get chosen...we'll see!

Hate to break it to ya, but the marathon fills up in a couple weeks once the registration opens up... in April. So, it's been closed for quite awhile. If you want to get to it next year, but a reminder in your calendar for mid-April to check their website on the exact day you can register for the marathon.
Yessir, it's my fav. The 10-miler too is one of my all time favorite road races. The courses for both are parkways, lakesides and rivershore routes, just spectacular. The TCM isn't called "the most scenic urban marathon" for nothin'. Also, the finishline for both is virtually at the steps to the capitol. When you round the last corner, it's a downhill surge to the line with the capitol in the background. Bart Yasso of Runner's World has called it the "best finishline" in marathoning. And let me add one more kudo Runner's World has given. They call it "the best organized marathon". With the start at the Metrodome (waaay more than enough bathroom, warmup and pre-race meeting space) and the bus transportation from different points in Minneapolis and St Paul, along with a route that has barely a 20-ft stretch without some cheering spectator, it really is top notch!

Ah, this is killing me. Depending on whether not Sandy gets cast in Anything Goes, i would be able to run the 10 mile...but the problem is that we won't know until, i assume, August.
The race on Oct 3, i get married Oct 1 and if she gets cast in the show, rehearsals start Oct 5. Since this would be her first professional show we're willing to put off the honeymoon so she can perform in the show. This opens my race calendar in early October, but i still won't be able to run it because of the uncertainty. Arg!

Well, chalk it up to bad luck. Two years in a row I haven't been selected for the 10 mile.
Does anyone else have any ideas for a mid-distance race like this late fall in either MNPLS area or Southeastern WI???

That is a good source for Minnesota races, Jrjo suggested it to me last august when i joined.
From looking at the site we have:
September 11: Bear Water 10 Mile, White Bear Lake (149 finishers '03)
Sept 12: City of Lakes 25K, Minneapolis (524 women finishers, over a thousand overall, '03)
There is a half marathon in October, but i ran the 5k there last year and this is a fairly small event (Nerstrand Big Woods).
At the half marathon distance, there is the Gopher to Badger Half Marathon on Aug 14. If i don't get to do Grandma's marathon next june, this is what i want as my replacement.
There is another half marathon in Mora, MN on Aug 21, but there were only 300 finishers last year, and i grew up in that relative area of East Central Minnesota...it's small town, small time.

and I know someone that lives 2 miles from the start .
Cheesehead 1/2 in Hilbert September 11th .... a little boring IMHO
Frostbite 10 mile in Stevens Point Dec ???-- no spectators, easy course
Wo-zha-wa 1/2 ---Sep 18 --- cjay's done this one........the Dells
j-hawk 1/2............Sept 19th........whitewater, WI ?????? this one's quite new
october 9---whistlestop half.........Ashland (hey, it might as well be considered MN). all except the very end on old RR tracks...
Oct 30th---Lakefront Discovery 15k......Milwaukee. Probably the biggest of those listed.....if you like larger races

Would Indy be too far of a drive? They have a 5k, 13.1, and 26.2.

Indy's a bit out of reach at this stage in my life. I was hoping to do the 10 mile in White Bear Lake, MN, but it's a noon Sunday race and I have no vaca left for the year.
Sue, that Discovery 15K may be just what I'm looking for! Close by, and a good distance for my minimalist training scheme. THANKS!
