I don't hear people talk about fishing much here...I haven't gone fishin' in a while, but I enjoy it.
So what brings this up?
I like to r*n along the hike and bike trails along the Trinity River in Ft. Worth. There have been a lot of people fishing there lately. They must have released some trout because I saw several people catch them and one guy had a nice stringer of 7 or 8 trout, nice pan sized ones about 12-16 inches. It's too hot for trout in Texas so you generally only get to fish for them in the colder months when they release a batch. The game warderns were there the other day just making sure people were following the rules.
Anyway, that was pretty entertaining for my run...(along with some pretty girls on a sunny day)

I love fishing and spend a ton of time on the water in the warmer months. The water is solid right now though and I don't do ice fishing. Walleyes, muskies, pike and smallmouth bass are fish I enjoy most but also do some crappie, white bass and largemouth fishing. There is a decent steelhead (rainbows that run up local rivers to spawn) fishery on the lake Erie tribs but I've only gone once, caught nothing but did net a nice 9-10 lb fish for a guy. Game wardens in Ohio have a field day during the walleye spawning runs off Lake Erie. Lots of people fishing for them, more than a few trying to snag them illegally. Wardens are pretty creative too - they dress like fishermen and fish right along side you....

I've missed the last couple weekends, but I fish most every week, frozen lake or not. You can have your bacon or burgers, but my choice of dinner table meat is a nice fat fillet of whatever happened to be biting that day

yep, it really is a type of fish... depending on what part of the country you're located in it's pronounced wither crappy, croppy or they are also called bream in some places..... and they're dang tasty, especially during cold water seasons...

Yup, used to do a lot of crappie fishing when I was a kid in Michigan. Parents had a cabin across from a bunch of semi submerged stumps...we used a cheap little jig called a "pinkie" and when they were hitting you had enough for a couple of meals. Sometimes we had fish for breakfast! Also could catch bluegills almost any time. My favorite eatin fish is the good ole yellow perch. My uncle had a boat on Saginaw Bay and we would catch over a hundred on a good day...Love walleye too...

Perch and walleyes, Lake Erie staples! Filled a few freezers in my time with those two delectable items. Saginaw Bay is on my list of places to walleye fish in the future.

I love fish...
however, I don't like to fish.
This thread reminded me of an old "BC" comic strip in which the one character is talking to another about his new cereal that he invented...it comes in the shape of little fish, and it wasn't selling...the other character told him that he should probably come up with another name besides "crappies".

I enjoy fishing (and crabbing too) thought I havent done it since last summer. We would almost always come back from bay fishing with a load of tasty Dungeness crabs as well as fish (flounders, soles, and greenlings usually)

That is a big walleye Rob!
I have heard they actually have a walleye tournement in my old hometown downriver from Midland Michigan on the Titabawassee River. When I was a kid the river was horribly polluted from Dow Chemical, but they have really cleaned it up. They do recommend only eating a few fish per month from there however, as some heavy metals are still present. (kind of like Ted Nugent)
